The Atlanta Inter-Alumni Council (AIAC) is an alumni support organization for UNCF member colleges and universities. The AIAC membership includes Metro Atlanta residents who are alumni of UNCF colleges and universities.

The AIAC was founded to foster, influence and safeguard the existing and strength of historically black colleges and universities.

The AIAC endeavors to accomplish this mission by:

  • Raising funds for UNCF institutions.
  • Assisting in the recruitment of students for member colleges and universities.
  • Informing the general public of the value of historically black institutions and contributions of alumni of these institutions.
  • Encouraging cooperation among special interest groups in support of higher education for African Americans.

History of the Organization

The Atlanta Inter-Alumni Council (AIAC) was formed more than 45 years ago. Shortly after its inception and under the leadership of Eloise Burwell, a graduate of Morris Brown College, the AIAC hosted its first National Alumni Council Conference. This conference, held in l971, was very successful and demonstrated the strength of the newly formed alumni organization.  In February 2013 the AIAC again hosted the 67th National Alumni Council, the 55th National Pre-Alumni Council and the Institute for Capacity Building (ICB) Conference in Atlanta.

The torch of leadership was subsequently passed on to Anderson Flen, Saint Paul College; John Hopkins, Benedict College; Katie Settle, Oakwood College; Michael Harris, Morehouse College; Jesse Thomas, University of Georgia; Anthony Hudson Sr., Virginia Union University & ITC/MSR and Juli Gilyard, Xavier University. The efforts of the AIAC Presidents, instituted fundraising initiatives such as Family Fun Day and Picnic, Alumni Recognition Banquet Dinner Dance, Awards Luncheon and Dance A Thon. Rev. Anthony Hudson, Sr., Virginia Union University & The interdenominational Theological Center/MSR is the current president of the Council.

The AIAC continues to sustain itself through fundraisers, financial gifts from friends and membership dues. The most significant annual fund raiser is the Black Art Auction. Funds from the art auction are raised in support of UNCF.
